Proper Skin Care

You need proper skin care to keep your face as youthful as possible. To do this, you must do proper cleansing, exfoliation and to moisturize your face. Below, we will discuss a skin care regiment which will hopefully lead us to better and smoother skin. Of course there are many products which can do the job for you but we are not going to discuss that in this article.

Your skin type plays a pivotal role in determining which regiment or product is best for you. There are three basic skin types: Sensitive, oily and normal. Find out which skin type you have before going for a regiment.

Step 1: Cleansing

The key to this step is simplicity. Find a cleanser that suits your skin type and stick with it. There is no need to go for the complex cleansers which require complicated steps. There are a range of cleansers you can find at your local pharmacy. A cheap $15 cleanser will do. Try not to wash your face with bar soaps as it would dry out your skin. Choose a creamy cleanser if you have dry skin or a clear cleanser if you have oily skin.
While it is good and feels good to cleanse your face, do not do it too often or you will risk over cleansing your face. The only time you need to apply your cleansing agent is at night to remove the make-up and sunscreen and clear out your pores. If you have dry skin, consider cold cream like Pond's, which the French use. No water is needed for application of cleansers, just apply it and wipe it off. However, most women prefer to use water and it is advisable to use warm water if you are one of those. Squeeze out a blob of cleanser the size of a dime and apply evenly on your face.
As the area around the eye is sensitive, make sure to use proper make-up remover and don’t rub too hard around the area. For those who prefer organic, olive oil can be an alternative to make up remover.
When you wake up, skip the cleanser and just splash warm water on your face. Do not wash with hot or cold water as it can cause broken capillaries.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Most people tend to ignore or neglect this step in their face whitening routine. However, exfoliation is an important step in making your face look more youthful and whiter. This is one of the reasons why men tend to look more youthful-without realizing it; they exfoliate daily when they shave.
Below are some exfoliation methods:
1.       A common method is facial scrubs.
2.       Besides the conventional scrub, you can also use a wash cloth. Apply as blob of cleanser on the washcloth together with some refined sugar and massage your face. After that, rinse your face.
3.       Microdermabrasion. You can buy microdermabrasion kits.
4.       Chemical peels are also very effective in removing those dead cells from your face. It is very expensive though.

In the quest for a more youthful look, some of us swear by toners. However, most beauty experts do not recommend the use of toners. A good cleanser should be able to do a toner’s job-remove make-up, oil and dirt. However, the choice is really up to you. It is your face and your skin after all. If it feels good on you, nothing is stopping you from using it.

Step 3: Moisturize

Every good beauty expert and consultant out there recommends that you should include this step in your skin care regiment. This is especially true if you have dry skin as it prevents peeling and “self-exfoliation” which is an ugly thing if your do not intend for it to happen. How then should you moisturize. Listen to your skin, if it feels tight or you see signs of peeling, then it is mandatory that you apply that moisturizer.  However, do not do it too often or your pores will get clogged. For those who prefer organic over man-made, a range of oils can be used. Extra virgin coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil is some of the options available. However, please do some extra research before trying on random oil on your face.
Some beauty consultants highly suggest the use of eye creams. Why? The area around the eye sockets are extremely vulnerable to wrinkles as there is no fatty tissue around it. Eye creams are specially made to “thicken” this area and slow down the advent of wrinkles. However, others believe that your cleaning lotion would also do the job just as well.

Step 4: Apply Sunscreen

Unknown too many, the biggest cause of wrinkles is over exposure to UV from the sun. Therefore it is highly recommended that you apply a sunscreen of at least SPF 30. You should also use the sunscreen when the sun is not out such as cloudy days and even in the winter for optimal protection. Most moisturizers also come in combination with sun protection. The proper way if you go down that route is to buy two moisturizers. The one for night use should not have any sunscreen in it as products with SPF ratings are not intended for 24 hours use and can aggravate the skin. When choosing a sunscreen, make sure it contains Mexoryl or Helioplex.

In conclusion, to obtain that porcelain like face most women, and men, wish for, there is a need to follow rigorous steps which are outlined above. While some prefer to purchase separate products for each step, others choose the other route which is to buy all the products in a set. So get out there and give yourself skin you have always wanted!
